Many know New Orleans as The Big Easy. But, for New Orleans’ residents, life has been significantly different over the past several years. While the “show” must go on at this year’s SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition, it’s important to acknowledge that it’s taking place in a city where people are still deeply affected in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. At Wheaton World Wide Moving, we wanted to break from our traditional presence at SHRM’s trade show and find a way to help the people of New Orleans in some small way.
This year, Wheaton World Wide Moving is partnering with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana and Move for Hunger, an organization, founded by a Wheaton agent, that collects unwanted, non-perishable food items from Wheaton customers around the country, and delivers those items to local food banks. Every time a SHRM conference attendee stops by the Wheaton booth (#2920) and swipes their I.D. card, Wheaton will make a financial donation in conjunction with Move for Hunger to Second Harvest.
Our goal? Well, there are roughly 9,000 people registered to visit the SHRM conference this year. We want a minimum of 5,000 swipes. Is that a tall mountain to climb? You bet. But we believe everyone at SHRM will want to help. After all, it really doesn’t cost a thing – just a few minutes of your time.
Wheaton can help you, your employees and the communities in which they live. Let us know how.
