Eating out of house and home

December 7, 2009 | Household Moves

It’s estimated that a family of four spends $560 a month on dining out an average of five times per week. The faster you get your kitchen back in action after your move,  the sooner you can start saving money. Here are a few tips to help you reconnect with your family over meals, not a restaurant table.

Frozen/refrigerated foods, produce or open food items cannot be transported in moving vans. Save money and prepare for your move by cleaning out the pantry and refrigerator. Ask your local Wheaton agent about donating these items through Move For Hunger.

To prepare refrigerators and freezers for moving:

  • Empty all contents
  • Secure or detach and wrap shelves
  • Unplug electric cord and tape to the back of the refrigerator
  • Disconnect icemakers from the waterline and drain prior to moving

Your local Wheaton agent can gladly schedule a third party to service refrigerators and freezer.
