Single Women Dominate Housing Market

A 2011 article by msnbc.com reported that single women have become of prominence in the real estate market. The article stated that, According to the National Association of Realtors, last year unmarried women made up 20 percent of all home buyers, where single men accounted for 12 percent.

Although the reason between this discrepancy between men and women was not stated, the article cited that the Joint Center for Housing Studies says the three main reasons single women are buying homes in record numbers are:

  • To relocate closer to a job or family
  • To gain more space
  • Their strong desire to nest

The time to buy is still now, as interest rates remain at historic lows and are expected to stay there for awhile.

  • Condition
  • Price
  • Think about your future
  • Think about the upkeep of the home
  • Take the house hunting process slow and steady
