Moving to a New Town: Tips on Getting Settled

August 10, 2011 | Moving Guides & Tips

It can be difficult moving to a new town and home. Meeting new people and getting settled in a new environment is not an easy thing to do. Here are some tips we recommend for introducing yourself to your new community:

Throw a housewarming party: Why not throw your own party? Invite the neighbors over to introduce yourself. Plan a party on a weekend afternoon or evening.

Join a local club or organization: Find something you’re interested in and pursue it in your new town. Get involved with the community. Bonding with people who share a passion for the same things you do is a great step in the right direction when it comes to making relationships.

Get the kids involved: Plan activities/play dates with the neighborhood kids through their parents. Sign up the kids for sports teams, organizations and clubs.

Introduce yourself: This may seem like a no-brainer, but by simply introducing yourself and saying you are new to the area will open up windows of conversations. People want to help you and make you feel welcome, so don’t be afraid to open up.
